Planning: Fast Fixes for Wedding Day Mishaps

DRESS TOO BIG? DON’T WORRY. HERE’S THE SCOOP ON DEALING WITH BIG DAY DISASTERS.

THE DRESS DOESN’T FIT Your amazing wedding dress, which you spent so much time selecting and being fitted, is too big (worries equal skipped meals). What’s a bride to do?

Quick Fix - If your gown is falling off (especially in the bust) experts suggest using fabric tape to adhere the dress to your skin. And a satin sash to cinch your waist can also solve the problem.

THE CAKE TOPPLES Believe it or not, a cake collapse is pretty common! It might happen because the confection is too heavy for the stand or close to the dance floor.

Quick Fix - Luckily, it’s fairly easy to repair the damage. Have your fastacting planner or caterer piece the cake back to its original form. Then spread frosting over the affected area. If it still looks iffy, take flowers from table centerpieces and artfully arrange them. Dim the lights for the cake cutting and no one will even notice.

MAKEUP MESS No matter how big or small, a last-minute stain can whip any bride into a frenzy.

Quick Fix - Apply a little club soda to the spot, then sprinkle some talc or salt to soak it up. Let dry. If the spot remains, touch it up with white chalk.

BLOWN AWAY You thought you just needed to worry about your veil getting lipstick smudges in the breeze?

Quick Fix - If your reception is of the outdoor variety, note that many tents can handle rain better than wind. Tents do blow over. Even if it’s built like a log cabin, your tent might not be able to withstand intense wind. If you wake up to blustery weather on your wedding day, consult the venue manager or rental company about whether you should risk it. Is there an onsite indoor facility available? If you decide to go ahead, make sure the tent pro sticks around for the entire reception (even it means an additional fee).

FRESH BREATH Mints might spruce up matters—but only temporarily.

Quick Fix - Nothing kills bad breath better than eating an apple. It attacks odor from your stomach and keeps breath fresh for the day.

PUFFY EYES Concerned you may wake up with red, puffy eyes on the morning of your wedding?

Quick Fix - The night before prop pillows to raise your head: This helps drain fluid from the blood vessels around the eyes. Still red and swollen after you awaken the next day? Then place cold, wet tea bags on each lid to relieve swollen tissue.

AN ATTENDANT FEELS QUEASY An empty stomach or a night-before celebration could all cause any groomsman or bridesmaid to faint during the ceremony.

Quick Fix - Briefly stop the proceedings, bring the person a chair and glass of juice, and then resume the ceremony. To ward off such mid ceremony mishaps, advise your attendants to eat something before-hand. Another tip is not to have them lock their knees when standing for long periods of time. Instead roll gently back and forth on the balls of the feet. It’s a trick that the guards at Buckingham Palace use and keeps the blood circulating.

Not only is My Little Steamer Go Mini adorable, but it is a must-have on the wedding day.

This 850-watt steamer is both lightweight and powerful. It uses plain tap water to deliver 15 minutes of steam per filling. It is easy to use and cool to the touch when in use.

Celebrity News: Ideas to Steal from George & Amal's Wedding

via Instagram
We knew the moment Amal Alamuddin and George Clooney descended on Venice, it would be a five-star weekend. Romance and elegance permeated throughout the floating city late last month; it was definitely a glamorous affair worthy of an Oscar with a list of Hollywood’s elite in attendance.

Of course, you may not want to spend an estimated $13 million on a wedding celebration, but you can take a few elegant trends from Hollywood’s new royal couple to make your own fairytale wedding. Here’s what we spotted on the canals of Venice.

WEDDING WEEKEND Because the actor/director and his human rights attorney met in Italy last September, it seemed fitting to wed in Venice—the city of amore! For their wedding weekend, the couple invited their guests to relax and set up camp at Belmond Hotel Cipriani. The couple began the festivities on Friday with a boat ride down the Grand Canal to join friends and family for the rehearsal dinner before going their ways for their bachelor and bachelorette parties. On Saturday, they exchanged vows in an intimate ceremony at the Aman Canal Grande Hotel followed by a reception into the wee hours. The celebrations continued with a post- wedding lunch the next day at The Cip, a dinner at Le Graneries at Belmond Hotel Cipriani, and then a civil ceremony on Monday morning.
MAKE IT YOURS From a welcome party to the farewell lunch, a wedding weekend gives you ample opportunity to entertain all of your loved ones with fun, memory-making, personalized events.

VENICE Italy has always been a choice spot for celebrity weddings. Who can forget Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel, or John Legend and Chrissy Teigen, and most recently Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka? They have all said “I do” under the Tuscan sun. But for Mr. & Mrs. Clooney, the city of Venice—a group of small islands separated by long and winding canals—set the mood for their wedding celebration.
MAKE IT YOURS If Venice seems out of bounds, then opt for somewhere closer to home. The Caribbean offers spectacular accommodations at many all-inclusive resorts. And don’t forget Hawaii’s exotic appeal where you can entertain friends and family in our 50th state.

THE MONOGRAM George and Amal have brought the monogram back in style. The couple personalized their wedding by designing a logo just for the event. Intertwined initials—an elegant “A” and the classic Art Deco “G”—graced many aspects of their wedding from the bride’s hatbox to flags that signified their fleet of speedboats.
MAKE IT YOURS Add elegance to the wedding by having your initials set the mood. Use it on wedding stationery and invitations, napkin holders, and certainly shining brightly as a cake topper.

SEEING RED While Alamuddin went with luxe traditional white for her wedding dress by designer Oscar de la Renta, romantic red played a big part of the weekend soiree. Alamuddin wowed everyone at the rehearsal dinner in a stunning red gown by Alexander McQueen. Red also appeared at the post-nuptial dinner at Belmond Hotel Cipriani in the flowers and silk pillows adorning the chairs. And no doubt about it, plenty of Italian red wine was enjoyed by all.
MAKE IT YOURS Whether it’s red or in combination with another color, make your signature color standout in décor, food and, yes, even your wedding dress.

SPECIAL MOMENTS There’s no doubt to those in attendance that George and Amal are madly in love—and don’t take themselves too seriously. And like many newlyweds, they gifted their guests with a look into their playful romance by sharing a special photo of their romance including one of Clooney taking a bite out of Alamuddin’s hat.
MAKE IT YOURS Share your special times with loved ones with a photo that speaks your love for one another. It will be treasured by friends and family for many years to come.

CHECK THE PHONES Smartphones and all social media were banned to maintain the privacy of the ceremony and reception. However, cameras with trackable photos were provided for all guests.
MAKE IT YOURS Kindly ask guests to turn off all smartphones for the ceremony at the very least.

Planning: Surviving Football Season

Summer is coming to an end and you are ready to get back to planning your day after a long break of fun in the sun. But, just as quickly as the seasons change, you realize that football season is here and instantly your fiancé is unavailable for all Thursday evening, Sunday, and Monday night appointments. We've been there and have some advice for getting your planning done while also spending quality time rooting for your fav team with your guy.

1. Get the Schedule - Most teams have an app that allows you to have the entire schedule on your phone or iPad. With the tap of a finger you can know the days that your husband-to-be will want to be in front of the television. Planning appointments around these days turns telling him when and where you need him into an argument-free conversation. Also, take note of those precious 'bye' weeks to fill up on visiting as many wedding vendors as you possibly can.

2. Fantasy Time - Planning should be a fun time together and planning during football season should be no exception. While he does his fantasy team lineup grab your laptop and do your fantasy wedding lineup. Let him tell you which running backs he picked up for the week and give him updates on what music you added to the playlist. The back and forth banter will allow you both to talk about what's going on without feeling the pressure of planning.

You can still plan your day during football season
3. Utilize Commercials - Some wedding tasks are tedious for brides and grooms no matter what time of the year. Stamping envelopes, writing out place cards, or tying tags to your favors takes time and will require breaks so why not do these things while the commercials play? Do a task a week and before you know it all these jobs will be finalized.

4. Get the Game on the Go - Some cable and satellite providers offer live streaming of football games to your smart phone so he never has to be away from the game. Call your television company to see if this is an option available to you. If it is let him know it's a compromise so that you can see your wedding vendors when they are available and he can watch the game in the car to and from the appointments.

5. Get Away For The Day - If you just want to steer clear of game day and the excitement (or stress) that surrounds it then plan to spend time with your bridesmaids, mom, or future mother-in-law. You'll have at least three hours from kickoff and can accomplish a lot during this time. Shop for accessories, try on your wedding dress, and browse gifts for your groom. Use this time to bond with others in the wedding and tackle tasks that you won't want your husband-to-be present for.

Most importantly, remember that football season is only a few months of the year and you'll get back to full-time wedding planning with your groom soon enough- well, at least until baseball starts.
